As I arrived at Oak Tree Barn Weddings on a warm, sunny October day, I knew instantly it was going to be a really special day for Tanith and Andy. The rustic charm of the barn, nestled among the trees and fields of the Kent countryside, was breath taking. This was my first opportunity to document a wedding at Oak Tree Barn Weddings, I have to admit, by the end of the day I was pretty much blown away!

So, here’s Tan and Andy’s story plus some helpful tips and information about getting married at Oak Tree Barn and making the most of your wedding photography at this gorgeous venue.

The Location

Despite being set in beautiful countryside, one of the huge benefits of Oak Tree Barn is it’s location and it’s close proximity to Tonbridge and all the convenience and amenities that brings. One of the down sides of a countryside location can be that it’s well away from hotels, taxis etc. You definitely won’t have that problem at Oak Tree Barn Weddings

Whilst you’d never know it when you’re actually there, Oak Tree Barn is only one mile away from Tonbridge meaning your guests will have loads of options when it comes to accommodation and transport. There’s a Premier Inn approximately 5 minutes walking distance, London is 40 minutes away by train and the venue is situated on a private road on the A21 with easy access to the M25.

When planning a wedding, not having the headache of having to worry about how your guests will get to the venue or where they can stay is a real bonus of Oak Tree Barn Weddings.

The Morning Preperations

Tanith and her bridesmaids/bridesmen stayed in the onsite cottage "The Bothy" the night before the wedding and were able to make use of the on site Jessica Simpson Studio for their hair and make up which is again super handy for keeping things simple and stress free in the morning.

The Ceremony

Tanith and Andy’s ceremony was held in Oak Tree Barns aptly named “Love Shack” and provided a gorgeous spot for their ceremony. Decorated using vintage rugs down the aisle and pample grass really fit the whole rustic vibe of the venue.

The great thing about having the ceremony outside was that Tanith and Andy could have their confetti throw straight as they walked back down the aisle.

The Drinks Reception and Photo's

The drinks reception is the best time as a photographer to capture those great hugs and candid moments between couples and their guests. Oak tree Barn Weddings has a large outside space with a naked tipi area, loads of seating and an outside bar, The Tipsy Gypsy! There’s also a covered tipi area aswell so plenty of options for you and your guests to hang out.

Tan and Andy, like most of the couples I work with, really wanted some nice photos of them together as a couple and a few group photos of their closest family but didn’t want to spend too long away from their guests. Oak Tree Barn weddings has some lovely spots for some portraits so we slipped away for 20 minutes or so to chat and take some photos of Tan and Andy. I’m always mindful of keeping this bit as relaxed as possible and it was great to see them both relax and enjoy some time together. After a few shots it was time for a few speeches outside.

Oak Tree Barn Weddings - The Wedding Breakfast in the Rustic Barn

The barn area is a really cool spot for your meal and speeches. Tanith and Andy got married in October and chose to use those autumnal tones in their flowers and decor which fit well with the barn. Andy had Tan had 6 speeches! A few more than usual but Andy said to me the speeches are the best bit of a wedding so why not! The Evening Reception, Dancing and Sparklers

As the sun came down, Oak Tree Barn really came alive as the festoon lights all around the venue and fire pits added such a cool atmosphere for guests to enjoy themselves before the first dance and party. Tan and Andy really wanted some pictures as the sun set and also with the festoon lights and as a photographer I love playing around with artificial lighting to get my couples something a little bit different.

The festoon lights and the whole ambience was also the perfect backdrop for some sparklers : )

As Tanith, Andy and their guests enjoyed some drinks outside, the team at Oak Tree Barn turned the room around to set up for the evening party. Festival Wedding DJ’s supplied the entertainment and the barn was a great venue to dance and have fun.
