Confessions of a Bridal Makeup Artist: What Every Bride Needs to Know!
Lucy Jayne is a super experienced Kent wedding makeup artist and a two time winner of the Beauty Award at The Kent Wedding Awards (so she definitely knows what she's talking about!) I've worked with Lucy a few times now and she's also really lovely and super relaxed which is also hugely important! Today she's taken the time to share some of her insider tips and tricks to make sure you guys get the best bridal make up experience possible! Thanks Lucy!
Book Early
I get brides enquiring about my services and apologising because the wedding is a year or more away but booking early is so important! As soon as you have your venue secured, you should be booking the other important services, so never apologise : ) I would rather have your date pencilled in early than have to turn you away because I am booked up.
Expect a Consultation
This is the most important bit…
If you book a makeup artist who simply sends you the bill and says "see you on the day!", I'd recommend you walk away! Your make up artist should work with you before the day, have a full consultation with a run through of your makeup so you can see what it really looks like before the day which is so important for making sure you feel comfortable and relaxed on the day itself!
Keep an Open Mind
We all love a bit of Wedding "Pinspiration" so definitely bring your makeup inspiration and ideas from Pinterest along to your consultation but it's really important to keep an open mind. Sometimes the looks we see on Pinterest etc. may not work as well you think. Take advantage of your makeup artist's experience at tweaking looks to fit your expectations.
More Isn't Always Best!
It may be hard to believe because we've all heard this somewhere, but you DON’T have to wear more makeup than usual just because you are a bride or for it to be seen in your wedding photos.
Your make-up artist should be mindful of your comfort level (this is another reason a consultation beforehand is so important!) so if heavy makeup scares you (most Pinterest pictures are of strong makeup looks), creating beautiful skin and effortless beauty vibes is something I'm always focused on.
Enjoy the Experience
Remember to enjoy it! It's your chance to be pampered a bit and enjoy a really luxurious experience. Your experience with your make up artist should be super relaxing and help soothe away any nerves that you might be having about all eyes being on you as you walk down the aisle.
Share and Listen!
The more your make up artist knows, the better they can help you feel a million dollars! So tell them about skin conditions, share pics of the dress and generally share with them what you want to achieve! And please be prepared to take advice! Sometimes I may know a particular look won’t work, and I don’t want you to be disappointed. It is all about skin tone, face shape, hairstyle and the overall theme of the wedding, whether you are going traditional or out-of-the-box alternative. It's so important your makeup suits you, showcases your natural beauty and makes you feel like you are walking on air for that first look moment!
Thanks so much to Lucy : ) You can find her website here and you should definitely check her out if you're looking for a wedding make up artist!
