The Ferry House Inn - The Location

The Ferry House Inn Kent is situated in Harty on the Isle of Sheppy, Sheerness approximately 60 minutes from London and is one of those venues that really has everything you could hope for from your wedding day.

As a photographer who's been fortunate enough to photograph lots of weddings at The Ferry House Inn I have to admit it's always been one of my favourites.

The venue is situated right on the Swale Estuary providing a fantastic backdrop for your wedding and some great opportunities to capture some amazing photos. It's a minutes walk from the main venue down to the waters edge and when the sun sets across the river it really is special!

When you add to that what in my experience is a really fantastic team at The Ferry House Inn who always go above and beyond to make sure your wedding day runs super smoothly then for me it's certainly one of those venues that's really worth considering if you are currently in the process of searching for your perfect wedding venue and the main reason it makes my list of The Best Kent Wedding Venues in 2023

The Ferry House Inn Kent - Getting Ready and Accommodation

One of the huge advantages of choosing The Ferry House Inn as your wedding venue is the accommodation available to both yourselves and your guests.

Having planned our own wedding (a while ago now admittedly!) one of the things I think me and Claire wished we had looked at is booking a venue with accommodation on site just like The Ferry House Inn just to make things easier for our guests at the end of the evening. No designated driver, no late night taxi or uber to sort out.

The Ferry House Inn has a couple of great options with 11 guest rooms on site plus 5 self catered cottages providing accommodation for approximately 70 of your guests. The 5 Mockets Farm Cottages are literally a 30 second drive from The Ferry House Inn and are absolutely gorgeous inside. You could even get a tractor ride in the morning to the venue like Jon and his guests did!

In addition to this there is also a designated dressing room area for you to use if you wish for hair, make up etc. which is super handy

You have a couple of great options for your ceremony and the great thing with The Ferry House Inn is that you are covered whatever the great British weather has in store!

The Oak Barn

A gorgeous rustic barn with high vaulted ceilings makes a great location both for your ceremony and wedding breakfast. The patio doors open up onto an outdoor terrace which makes a great space for guests to chill out with a drink and for your confetti shot.

The barn is filled with fairy lights and hops wrapped around the wooden beams and with the doors opened out on to the patio it really does have a great feel to it.

The barn at The Ferry House Inn is able to accommodate a massive 150 guests so you'll definitely not have to cut down your wedding day guest list! When the Events Suite is added that increases to 250 for the evening.

The Oak Gazebo

If the weather is nice then the option to get married outside under the Oak Gazebo is open to you and you should definitely take it!

The Oak Gazebo at The Ferry House Inn sits high overlooking the Swale estuary and is surrounded by the gorgeous Kent countryside and is available for outdoor ceremonies between April and October for up to 200 guests

The Events Suite

The Events Suite is a large marquee area attached to the Oak Barn and can be used either for your wedding breakfast or just for the evening dancing. Again the Events Suite has sliding doors that open up most of the way across to give direct access out on to the outdoor terraced area and as with the rest of The Ferry House Inn boasts stunning views. The Events Suite is able to sit 180 guests during the day and 250 evening guests so as you can see, you are in no way limited by numbers at The Ferry House Inn

St Thomas the Apostle Church

If you would like to have a church service then St Thomas the Apostle church is a lovely little church approximately 3 minute drive away from Ferry House Inn.

The Ferry House Inn Kent - Your Wedding Photo's

In the evening, with the sun coming down over the river it really is difficult to beat. It’s a very short stroll (like 1 minutes walk) right down to the waters edge from The Ferry House Inn, a wedding photographers dream, and a lovely chance for you and your new husband or wife to take a few minutes to yourself whilst getting some relaxed photos of the two of you together.

As well as the river, The Ferry House Inn also has a lovely little orchard area just behind the courtyard and barn that provides another beautiful backdrop for some photos as well as loads of surrounding countryside. It's a big advantage as a photographer as it gives me the opportunity to add a bit of variety to your portraits.

The surrounding area is nearly all countryside and it means that there are just so many lovely spots really nearby.

The Ferry House Inn Kent - Your Evening Reception

In the evening, depending on numbers your party will either take place in the Oak Barn or in the Events Suite which has a dedicated dance area which is blacked out with led lights giving a great space for the evening party.

At the majority of the weddings I've photographed at Ferry House Inn couples have opted to use the in house DJ who always gets things going but you are free to source your own DJ or band if you'd prefer.
